• an electric cord for connecting to an outlet;
• switch or speed switch;
• fan;
• heating element (spiral);
• engine.

As you can see, the design of the device is not at all complicated, so if you want to repair the hair dryer yourself, there should not be any difficulties with the repair. Next, we will consider all the main breakdowns that can occur, and under each malfunction we will tell you how to fix it. Possible malfunctions

Due to its simple principle of operation, the following breakdowns of a household hair dryer often occur:

• there is no power at all (the device does not turn on);
• the fan does not spin or the blades are poorly gaining momentum;
• during operation, you hear a burning smell or something sparkles in the engine area;
• the hair dryer does not blow hot air (only cold).

No power - check the circuit

First of all, if the hair dryer does not turn on, you need to check the power in the outlet and the integrity of the electrical cord. If there is power in the outlet, but the hair dryer does not work, carefully look at the appearance of the cord for repairs: it may be broken somewhere, frayed or notched. The most problematic places of the cord are considered to be the place of entry into the device body, as well as the place of connection with the electric plug. If, apparently, no obvious reasons for the failure were found, proceed to disassemble the case. It’s not at all difficult to disassemble the hair dryer body with your own hands, the main thing is to find all the fasteners and unscrew them (they can be hidden behind stickers, rubber caps, etc.).

When you get to the internal structure (pictured above), first of all, look at the junction of the electric cord with the other elements of the circuit. Very often, the motor does not start due to the fact that the wire disappears at the fastening point.If in your case everything is exactly so, the repair may result in simple soldering or twisting of cores.

The cord is working, but the hair dryer still does not work? We carry out repairs further and check the remaining elements of the circuit. If you have a diagram of your device model, use the tester to ring the rest of the elements: fuse, switch, and mode switch. There are not rare cases when a household appliance overheats and turns off due to a fuse blown. It must be replaced by exactly the same in terms of characteristics.

By the way, the opposite situation happens - after turning on and drying the hair dryer does not turn off. This is also the fault of the switch itself!

Another malfunction - the power on / off button does not work. We already told how to repair a light switch. Repair in this case is the same - check the disconnect contacts with a tester, strip them to a metallic color and if you can’t repair the damage yourself, replace the switch. In the same way, check the mode switch, if the hairdryer does not switch speeds or does not regulate the temperature (for example, it does not work at 2 speeds), try to repair the regulator or perform a simple replacement.

The fan does not rotate - we clean it

Another type of failure is problems with the fan, which does not accelerate. If the hair dryer does not work because the fan does not spin, disassemble the case and see how clean the blades are. Sometimes a fan does not gain momentum because hair is wound around it. For repairs you only need to perform cleaning - remove the blades from the shaft, remove all debris and reinstall the fan in the seat. By the way, if the fan smells of burning when you turn on the fan, then most likely the hair dryer stinks due to heavy pollution. Very often, thorough cleaning helps to solve the problem on your own at home with minimal tool kit for electrician!

The air does not heat up - we look at the spiral

Another no less popular malfunction is the burnout of the spiral, which is the main heating element. If your fan does not heat up or slightly warms the air, get to the spiral, ring it with a tester and do a visual inspection. A damaged heating element can be tried to be repaired, but most often after repair (for example, connecting a nichrome thread) several months pass and the hair dryer breaks again. It is better to replace the spiral with a new one, so that further damage does not occur.

Motor Issues

Well, the last, most unpleasant breakdown - when the hair dryer does not work due to the fact that the engine burned out. In this case, during repair, you can only use the tester to make sure that the engine is faulty. In addition, the smell of burning and sparking in the fan area can be considered signs of damage. You are unlikely to be able to repair the device yourself, therefore it is better to either replace the engine or take the device to a service center.
