Why does a car battery charger give 16 volts?
Hello! The voltage at the terminals of the charger (charger type SV-15, there are no current and voltage adjustments) for the car battery when measured with a multimeter was about 11.5 V. When connecting the terminals of the charger to a battery with a capacity of 60 Ah, the voltage at the terminals increased to 16.1 V. The current value on the ammeter of the charger immediately after connecting the battery is approximately 10-12 A, after 5-10 minutes it decreases to 2.5-3 A. Why does the voltage increase? Can this charger be used to charge the battery, will 16.1 V lead to battery breakdown?
Therefore, do not worry, everything is in order with you. By the way, in charging, the Wester CB15 charging instructions even have a graph of how the voltage and current change at different stages of the charge.
