Why squeak idle energy-saving lamps
Good afternoon. I ask you to tell me on the following question: when the light is turned on, a whistle / squeak is heard in the room, in general a very subtle sound. I don’t know if this is connected or not, but in all the rooms where this sound is observed, there are idle light bulbs + I recently put on energy-saving light bulbs, and before that there were only ordinary ones. For 15 years in the apartment, the sound appeared only recently. What could be the problem? Thank.
Such sounds are usually made by pulse transformers in lamp power circuits. It is also possible that such a sound can be made by a non-working energy-saving light bulb, if it is still standing in a working lamp. Conventional incandescent lamps should not emit any extraneous sounds during operation. Also, extraneous noise, crackles can occur in the absence of normal lamp contact in the cartridge, as well as with unreliable contact of conductors in the lamp itself. Therefore, it is better to invite an electrician to check the condition of the lamp.
Thanks for the advice. I unscrewed an inoperative light bulb from the chandelier and the squeak in the chandelier stopped.
