The junction box melts when the washing machine is turned on
Hello! Help me please! In my hallway, the junction box is open, and when I turn on the washing machine, I can hear a clear smell of melting wires. From this box there is a socket into which a water lift is connected. If I switch to another outlet, will the box melt? Or do all sockets in the house interact with this box?
Good afternoon! Everywhere the wiring is different, so you can’t just conclude that where you can include it without having information about the wiring. If you hear the smell of wires, then there are two options - either the wire (cable) is not designed for such a load and it heats up and fuses the insulation, or in the junction box an unreliable contact connection that heats up. If the cable is overloaded, it means that the circuit breaker is incorrectly selected to protect it.
In any case, this is an abnormal phenomenon and can lead to a fire in the wiring. Invite an electrician to check your wiring - the state of the contact connections, the cross-section of the wiring lines and their compliance with the load of the included electrical appliances, the correctness of the selected protective devices. Having a general idea of the wiring, it will be possible to conclude whether it is possible to connect the washing machine to a particular outlet.
