Is it possible to repair damage to the armored cable?
Hello. During the work, a violation of the outer cover of the armored cable was revealed. Explosive room. I did not find an answer in the PUE. Is it possible to cover it with a heat shrink tube or is it necessary to replace the cable? I would ask for an answer with reference to a regulatory document that allows or prohibits actions. Thanks in advance.
Hello. Indeed, in the PUE we did not manage to find this either. But let's reason logically. If you have damage to the outer cover, that is, the top insulation layer, and the armor layer is safe and sound, provided that the armor is grounded according to the rules (on both sides of the cable), you can leave it as it is.
In this case, you need to take into account a document called "Instructions for use of power cable lines. Part 1. Cable lines with voltage up to 35 kV ”. Here, p. 97, Appendix 23. In short, the document recommends installing plastic patches, wrapping with fiberglass tape, use PVC pipes, heat-resistant varnishes.
Adapting to modern conditions and materials, the following options are possible:
1. Heat shrink tube.
2. Fiberglass winding.
3. PVC corrugation, if the diameter of the cable allows, if not, the HDPE pipe is a more reliable option for protecting the cable and damaged place. A combination of several options is possible - it will not be superfluous.
It is possible to replace a cable section, but it is not rational to make two connections due to a damaged cover, therefore, if the distance to one end of the cable is small, you can completely replace this section. I repeat, if it is rational.
