Is it possible to disconnect the old wiring in the apartment and isolate it?
Good afternoon. We decided to change the wiring in one of the rooms. It turned out that we do not have a junction box, everything is directly powered from the shield. We decided to put a box from the shield, and connect everything from it (sockets, chandelier, etc.) / The question is: if we isolate the old wiring in the places where the sockets and chandelier are connected, and we feed from a new box, will it not shorten then? Is it permissible to do this or do you need to do something else?
Why can not dismantle the old wiring? It’s better to do a few distribution boxes, but if, for the sake of economy, you decide to install one, then it is permissible and so, although not desirable. Short or short - it depends on how you insulate the ends of the old wiring. An option is to bite them off the shell and insulate them with heat shrink or electrical tape (or both. Naturally, so as not to shorten, you need to disconnect the old wiring from the power supply, in your case from the meter. You do not need live wires in the walls! But, since If you do this only in ONE of the rooms, then determine in the junction box where the ends of the cables supplying your room are, and bite them off, then everything will probably be fine.
