From the first three digits in the marking of the terminal blocks, you can find out which series they belong to. They differ among themselves not only in appearance. Their technical characteristics are also different, which must be taken into account.
The most vulnerable and sensitive area in the wiring is considered to be the connection. After all, if the contact is bad, then this will lead to heating of the wiring and its sparking. As a result - failure of electrical wiring or fire. It is the connector that connects the cable through which electric current passes.
WAGO terminal blocks are reliable wiring harness connectors. In their technology, a screw connection is not used. The connection occurs by spring force. And depending on the spring that is used, the terminals are divided into the following types:
- flat spring clamp (fasteners under spring plates);
- CAGE CLAMP clamps (flat clamp fasteners);
- FIT-CLAMP clamps.
Note: not all wagon terminal blocks can connect aluminum wiring. If the wiring contacts are coated with Al-plus paste, then they can be connected with similar devices.
Flat spring terminal blocks
Used for fast wiring installation. A popular model of this type is WAGO 773. There are two options: without paste for combining copper wires and for connecting wires from aluminum or a mixture of aluminum and copper. The wires are connected using clamping mechanisms that are completely invisible from the outside. Due to this, it is not possible to remove the conductive core.

Clips CAGE CLAMP
Their use does not require lugs on a multicore cable. Terminal blocks are used for connecting chandelier and in junction boxes. Their main advantage is simplicity and reliability in installation.
Popular models of this kind: WAGO 222 and 224 (reusable).Connect copper wiring with a cross section from 0.08 to 35 mm2. Series 222 self-locking terminals with lever clamps are made without paste and are used for wire connection one and several cores with a cross section up to 4 mm2 and voltage up to 380V. If it is necessary to connect aluminum wiring, then the paste must be purchased separately.

WAGO 221 terminal blocks are considered analogues of the 222 series (in the photo below). These are universal spring terminal blocks with levers that are suitable for any copper conductors. The operating conditions of the wagon 221 connector are greatly simplified, since their dimensions are compact. Designed for voltages up to 450V. Used for wires with a cross section of 0.14–4 mm2 and for ferrules 002–4 mm2.

Terminal blocks 224 - single-core connectors. They allow you to quickly connect lighting fixtures without the use of tools.
FIT-CLAMP clamps
The use of such clamps allows the connection to be made without stripping from insulation. They use mortise contact. This is one of the new WAGO developments and it significantly speeds up and simplifies installation. Representatives of this type of terminal block include the 280 and 285 series wagons, as well as 862, which are designed for installation on a DIN rail.

WAGO terminal blocks are made of special tin-plated electrolytic copper, as well as nickel-chromium spring steel. How dielectrics use polycarbonate and polyamide, which are considered carriers of conductive elements.
Such connectors are used both in everyday life and in industrial production. Due to this, there is a wide range of values for each parameter:
- voltage ranges from 100 to 1000 volts;
- transmitted current is in the range from 6 to 323 amperes;
- cable cross-section varies from 0.08 to 95 mm2.

Advantages and disadvantages
Wagon terminal blocks are connecting elements that have their pros and cons. The benefits include:
- each wire has its own clip;
- quick and easy to install;
- no additional insulation required;
- compact sizes;
- you can connect conductors with different cross-sections and from different materials;
- safety in use;
- high impact resistance, reliability;
- during operation there is no maintenance of structural elements;
- if necessary, the connection can be easily redone.
The disadvantages include the fact that, like any plug-in connection, access to the terminal must be preserved.
