This applies to all types of utilities - water, gas and electricity meters. In order to prevent theft, supplying companies install a sticker with an anti-magnetic mark on the device, or, as it is also called, a magnetic field indicator.
How is an anti-magnetic seal arranged? This is a complex device that performs a number of protective functions. Externally - this is a regular sticker on which a strip or capsule is placed. It can be installed on an electric meter and other metering devices that can be stopped with a magnet. The latter serves as an indicator. It contains a magnetic suspension, in simple terms a bunch of small particles that will leave their original location when the device is touched by a magnet or other field source. The principle of operation and the design of the protective sticker on the electric meter (or gas or water meter) provide an average sensitivity of 100 mlT (Tesla miles).
Such fillings are of various types, but the principle of operation is approximately the same. Summarized, you can divide them into two main groups, in the photo you can see how each option looks:
- Strip. When a magnet is presented, its color changes from light to dark.
- Capsule. Under the influence of a magnetic field, the integrity of the capsule is violated, or the magnetic suspension otherwise loses its original form.

Despite the seriousness of the anti-magnetic fillings on the meters, consumers still continue to look for ways to use natural resources for free. Let's look at how they manage to deceive the anti-magnet and the performance of all existing methods.
- Failure of the seal and installation of magnets on the electric meter or water meter, with the aim of subsequent installation of the seal back. This method does not work, since all modern anti-magnet stickers are equipped with tear protection. When peeling it off, an inscription like "open avoid" or another appears on it and stick it back so that it is not noticeable, you will not succeed.
- Heating for accurate removal of the sticker will also not give results, because many seals change color when heated, the same applies to sudden cooling.
- Installation of a duplicate that does not respond to a magnetic field. Everything is quite simple, especially cunning citizens remove a real seal and glue a duplicate. It is visually difficult to distinguish the original sticker from the dummy, but when inspected, the inspector can detect this violation. As a result, the offender will be fined.
