Work with installation claws and manholes
Design Features
The design of the product is as follows: two steel elements that are bent in a semicircle or at right angles, and spikes that are attached to the arcs. With their help, you can catch on a support. These elements are connected to a special platform for the legs, which, in turn, have straps, with the help of which the foot of electricians is fixed, which rise to the support.
The human body must be supported on a support. To do this, in the kit there are slings and a special holding leash. With their help, the worker is protected from falling if the structure is damaged or slips.
Installer manholes and claws are used in electrical work. This is an alternative version of aerial platform, which is used when lifting personnel to work on poles of power lines. Such a device is convenient to use, practical and economical, as it reduces the cost of maintenance of electric networks. When it is not possible to install an aerial platform near supports, then the claws will be indispensable.
However, it should be noted that such a device is capable of raising only one employee. When there is a need to do the work of two or more electricians, it is necessary to use only aerial platform.
Claw species
Installers claws come in various designs. It depends on the types of power transmission poles. They differ in type of section and shape. Reinforced concrete posts are round, rectangular, cylindrical, trapezoidal, multifaceted and conical in shape. There are also round wooden supports. So what are the types of devices? There are only 2 (main):
- Sickle-shaped (KM-1, KM-2 and others). They are used when climbing wooden poles, even those that have reinforced concrete consoles. This design is not regulated, since the sickle with which the worker clings to the structure has a fixed standard size.
- Lazy (universal - LU-1 and others). Differ from previous scope and design. The element by which an employee clings to a support is called a manhole. It is bent at a right angle. Used to climb a reinforced concrete pillar with a section in the shape of a trapezoid and a rectangle. A distinctive feature is the fact that such installation claws can be adjusted and selected for any size of the reinforced concrete pillar.
Such a product is used for lifting onto poles of power lines with a voltage of 0.4 / 6/10/35 kV.There are also improved models that are used when lifting onto a support of a power line from 110 kV.
Terms of use
There is a special instruction for electricians, which describes how to use fitter's claws. First of all, it is necessary to take certain security measures when performing various works in electric networks, especially on power lines.
- Before embarking on work, it is necessary to agree on a procedure, draw up all the necessary documents, prepare a workplace and allow workers to carry out the task. These measures are extremely important and necessary in order to protect workers. For example, when an electrician is operating, voltage can be applied to live parts (namely wires).
- You must be able to properly use protective insulating agents that are used during work.
- Installers claws are used exclusively for those supports that are indicated in the passport of the device.
- Before starting work, you need to check the product for damage and check the date of the test. In this case, check yarns and belts, bolt joints, welds, retainers, spikes. Electricians who use construction claws must undergo additional training and education. They also check their knowledge, and check the availability of records for permission to independently perform work.
- Twice a year, claws and manholes should be sent for examination. This is necessary in order to timely detect and correct a defect or malfunction.
- If the device has broken integrity (for example, a crack or burr is present), then they are not allowed to be used.
- In addition to the design itself, before carrying out work, you must separately check the safety belt and climb the pole only with it.
- It is forbidden to change anything in the device of the device, their belts.
- It is strictly forbidden to climb the pole along which the fault currents passed to the ground.
- The design must be stable and holistic.
The video below clearly demonstrates how to use fitter's claws when climbing a support:
So we looked at what the installation claws and manholes are. Now you know what types of devices are and what is the purpose of each design.
