Why does the indicator show two phases in outlets in the bathroom?
In the bathroom, while washing, the washing machine stopped working. It turned out that the sockets in the bathroom stopped working, because plugged the machine into an extension cord from another room and it worked. Outlets are located one above the other (about 80 cm), in both the indicator shows two phases, the house is multi-storey, the old (30 years) wiring did not change. What to do? Thank.
If the outlet shows the phase, then the protective device in the shield from which this line is powered is turned on. The indicator shows two phases, but in fact there are no two phases in the outlet. It is likely that a break in zero occurred on this wiring line, and because of this, the washing machine stopped working. If there is no zero, then the second phase can be shown simply as a tip from the phase conductor. Zero may be absent due to breakage of the cable core or in the event of a contact failure of the neutral conductor at the point of its connection - in the junction box or in the junction box. The presence of voltage should not be checked with an indicator screwdriver, but with a voltmeter or multimeter in the voltage measurement mode. Invite an electrician to check the condition of the wiring line and repair the damage.
