Can the extension cord be checked for damage?
Hello! The situation is as follows. The wire from the extension cord lay in a dangerous place - in the immediate vicinity of a chair with sharp metal legs. Unrecognized wire damage could occur due to movement of the chair. Visually, no damage to the wire could be detected, the extension cord is working properly. Question: can there be theoretically subtle damages to the extension cord wire that do not initially affect its operation, but subsequently can lead to its ignition and, accordingly, fire? And how can you check the extension cord for such subtle damage? The extension cord itself works (that is, the device connected to it works). The fire hazard is of interest. Thank you in advance for your reply!
Hello! You can check the extension cord, but for this they use a megohmmeter, and it is unlikely to be at your fingertips. Yes, and calling a specialist will cost more at times. So if in doubt, just replace the extension cord with a new one.
