How dangerous is a megohmmeter?

Egor asks:
My friend, an R&A fitter, is trying to prove to me that an electronic megaometer can kill a person. As far as I know this is not possible, please help explain to him why.
The answer to the question:
Hello! It all depends on the particular person, the megger, the conditions in which this happened. Megometers come in with different voltages, so there is no definite answer, but sparks from two charged wires slip when they are closed so that I personally did not want to experience it myself. Theoretically, the current there should be small, even in electronic, even in electromechanical, but the editors of the site can not take responsibility by giving specific arguments.

It depends on the internal resistance of the megohmmeter, but, as a rule, the megohmmeter is safe for humans, it just “bites” the current a little and unpleasantly.
