What will happen to the electric meter if the ground wire is connected to zero?
Hello! We need a specialist (electrician) to clarify the situation in court: in the inter-apartment panel, the ground wire of one apartment was mistakenly connected to the neutral wire of the neighboring apartment. What impact can this have on the operation of electricity meters? Thank!
It will not have any effect, since no current flows through the grounding wire - it performs a protective function. In accordance with the requirements, the protective conductor is connected to a separate grounding bus. This is due solely to the requirements of grounding reliability, continuity of the grounding conductor. Such a connection is a violation, but the consequences of this violation are the unreliability of grounding for the apartment where this grounding conductor goes. This does not affect accounting.
